Class Structure
|
The structure of a class begins with running and stretching as a warm-op. Following the warm-up session; the students begin the fifteen moves done with the hands, arms, feet and legs. "Forms" preceed the fifteen basics. "Forms" are a series of preplanned movements which should be completed in a predetermined amount of time. Each belt level practices their respective forms in front of the class instructor. The instructor adjusts the stances, movement or position of individuals as needed. Free-style sparring takes place once the class instructor has worked with each belt level in forms. White belts due to their novice skill level do not participate in sparring. Sparring provides the students with an opportunity to practice what has been learned. This is the closest one will come to a real situation without it being a critical or life threatening one. no contact is allowed while sparring takes place. Following the rounds of sparring, "three step" sparring occurs. This is a much slower approach to "free style sparring that provides an opportunity to develope and perfect a variety of defence maneuvers. Finally, some warm-down exercises are performed prior to the culmination of class. The study of "Tae Kwon Do" teaches one the art of self-defence as well as providing a good exercise program and the sharpening of physical and mental powers. |
